SUMMARY
Under general supervision, provides courier service and delivers mail, meals and other cargo in the District. Work is performed in a transit vehicle in a traffic environment, with moderate physical requirements. Required to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives materials and supplies, and inspects deliveries for damages.
Delivers materials and supplies in a timely and efficient manner.
Drives a planned courier route, within a specific time schedule, distributing and collecting mail, meals, supplies and interdepartmental correspondence.
Loads and unloads delivery vehicle; inspects and maintains vehicle according to District standards.
Inspects vehicle, and identifies vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
Completes all required written reports on a daily basis.
Knowledge of
Safety rules and regulations, and safe driving techniques in all road conditions.
Local geographical area, road systems, and City and state traffic regulations.
Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment and preventive maintenance of the type of trucks to which assigned.
Tie down, loading and safe hauling practices.
Skill in
Operating vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, District policy and procedures, and state and local regulations.
Following and maintaining safety standards.
Adjusting and performing preventive maintenance on the trucks to which assigned.
Recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the road and taking appropriate action.
Reading and understanding a variety of plans and maps.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Education, Training and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and keep valid a Minnesota State Commercial Driver's License.
Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
