MAMMOGRAPHY TECH I - BREAST CARE & IMAGING

The Mammography Technologist performs screening mammography exams and may also perform diagnostic mammography examinations.
They obtain images of excellent diagnostic quality while providing maximum comfort and safety to the patient.
The technologist uses independent judgment and necessary skills to obtain high quality radiographs.
They educate the patient and/or family about the procedure, provide pre/post procedure instructions based on the age and understanding of the patient and/or family and verify understanding of these instructions.
The technologist consistently provides accurate anatomic display and provides additional views or images to optimally demonstrate anatomy and/or pathology and takes measures to provide and care for the patient s safety while properly utilizing procedure related patient care and support devices appropriate for the age of the patient.

Essential Functions

Mammography Technologist I:

Performs routine screening mammography and may also be required to perform some advanced radiographic exams.

Verifies physician s order ensures all required information is included prior to performing exam.

Clearly explains exam to be performed to the patient prior to performing exam.

Completes all required documentation within established time frame.

Demonstrates a productivity level that is consistent with daily patient flow.

Accommodates changes in workload.

Provides proper identification (correct patient information, DOS, ordering MD and tech initials) on all mammography images.

Alerts Supervisor of potential problems or delays in the schedule.

Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate staff.

Demonstrates competency in appropriate software programs in the mammography/radiology department.

Remains compliant with current Mammography Quality Standards Act and State licensure requirements

All mammography technologists must project an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.
They must support the Radiology mission, maintain a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.

Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients and the department is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Mammography Technologist II:
(includes all of the above and the following)

Performs and demonstrates competency in diagnostic mammography or other modalities as required based on facility.

Performs and demonstrates competency in advanced mammography or radiographic procedures based on services provided at facility

Performs and demonstrates competency in quality control testing with accurate documentation.

Orders department supplies from Lawson, monitors and maintain par levels for the department.
Reports supply issues or shortages immediately to the Supervisor.

Provides guidance and is a resource to less experienced staff

Education, Training and Experience

Required:

Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program, California State CRT and Mammography license, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with Mammography Certification and AHA BLS Certification.

Mammography Technologist I:

Minimum of 1 year continuous mammography experience or equivalent.

Mammography Technologist II:
Includes all of the above.

3 years of continuous Mammography experience or equivalent.

Preferred:

Breast ultrasound scanning with ultrasound procedure experience

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be patient centered focused with a strong attention to detail.
Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work in a team environment.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control.
Ability to follow instructions.
Demonstrate clinical proficiency specific to age of population served.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products and learn organization specific systems.

License and Certifications

Required:

California State CRT and Mammography license, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with Mammography certification.
AHA BLS certification.

Preferred:

American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Certification in Breast Sonography (BS) or ARDMS certification in Breast (BR).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
