Microbiologist

The position of Microbiologist falls within the 0403 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-9/11, you must meet all requirements by 11:
59 pm EST on 09/30/2019. In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above. You must possess the basic requirements identified below to be considered eligible for the position. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
A. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in:
microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent. B. Combination of education and
Experience:
courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. FOR GS-9:
A. Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the federal service which includes gathering and performing standard analyses of scientific data; reviewing and evaluating scientific data for efficiency and safety and preparing reports on scientific/technical study findings. -OR- B. Have completed2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree is related to the position to be filled; -OR- C. Have a combination of experience as described in A above and education as described in B above. When combining education with experience, first determine the applicant's total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the applicant's experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. FOR GS-11:
A. Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the federal service which includes gathering and performing analyses of scientific data; reviewing and evaluating scientific data for efficiency and safety; preparing reports on scientific/technical study findings; providing technical advice on quality control methods used in conducting analysis. -OR- B. Have completed3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
For GS-9:
Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-7 or higher. For GS-11:
Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-9 or higher. Applicants must have at least a fully successful or equivalent performance rating to receive further consideration for this position. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
