1. The beneficiary will be required to develop a multifaceted pedagogical program focusing on flute instruction. The program will need to be suitable for all high school aged students, both beginners and advanced students and will focus on providing extensive instruction in flute, music history, music evolution, music analysis, and music theory. The beneficiary will be expected to evaluate each student to determine which method is best suited for him or her and to accurately administer the correct method to help students develop their skills playing the flute. The beneficiary is expected to spend 25% of her time on this task.
2. The beneficiary will be expected to provide instructions on music theories and flute playing techniques to students. For example, the beneficiary will help students develop the ability to create and utilize music charts. The beneficiary will also be expected to inspire students and help them unleash their potential with the flute through the teaching of fundamental music elements such as harmony, form, texture and counterpoint. The beneficiary is expected to spend 25% of her time on this task.
3. The beneficiary will be expected to develop a regimen to help students prepare for music recitals and performances. She will meet with individual students and discuss their goals for the recitals and/or performances and will develop a practice regimen for students to follow. The beneficiary will also assist students by coordinating recitals, solo performances, auditions, and examinations held by MTAC, ABRSM, and MTNA. The beneficiary is expected to spend 15% of her time on this task.
4. The beneficiary will be required to research suitable teaching materials to prepare a lesson plan for individual and group classes, depending on course emphasis. Based on the research, the beneficiary will be expected to develop a music program curriculum. The beneficiary will implement the curriculum during lessons but will be expected to make changes based on class needs. The beneficiary will also develop a cohesive orchestral study program that can integrate well with the local and national youth music programs such as Pacific Youth Symphony and All State Honor School Orchestra. The beneficiary is expected to spend 15% of her time on this task.
5. The beneficiary will be expected to help students select a musical repertoire based on their respective skill level. The beneficiary will research musical pieces and offer suggestions to students. The suggested pieces will be chosen based on the pupil's individual strengths and weaknesses. The students proficiency with the chosen pieces will be used as the metric to determine their readiness for the next level. The beneficiary is expected to spend 10% of her time on this task.
6. The beneficiary will be required to help students organize a long term learning schedule, including setting goals and target dates. Manage student lesson plans through a centralized calendar. The beneficiary will sit down with the student and parents to discuss their goals. Based on the students desired goals, the teacher will create a learning schedule for the student. The beneficiary will be expected to keep track of the learning schedule for each student and to make changes based on each students progress. The beneficiary is expected to spend 10% of her time on this task.
Minimum Requirements
Masters degree in Music and Membership in the Music Teachers Association of California.
