The City of Irvine is seeking an experienced individual with strong animal handling and communication skills.
This position is Extended Part-time with a schedule requirement of 30-32 hours per week.
The ideal candidates will posses a valid California driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent and one year experience working with animals.
Animal shelter or rescue experience and strong computer skills are desired.

Interview:

Background Check:
A thorough background investigation will be conducted prior to appointment.
Medical Examination:
A medical examination will be conducted, including a drug screening and proof of a negative TB test to ensure the ability to perform assigned duties.

Part-time employees are employed at will and their services can be discontinued without cause.

Part time employees in designated positions requiring a minimum of 30 hours to a maximum of 32 hours per week on a year-round basis, are referred to as Extended Part Time Employees, and shall receive the following
Benefits:
Insurance Extended part time employees are eligible to participate in the City's medical plan.
If you elect to enroll in one of these plans, the City will pay of the employee-only coverage.
EPT employees are also eligible to participate in the City's dental plan.
If you elect to enroll in the plan, you will be responsible for the entire premium.
Retirement Extended part time employees receive retirement benefits through the California Public Retirement Program (CalPERS).
The City offers the PERS 2.

Contribution rates are subject to change.
Employees become fully vested after reaching the equivalent of 5 years of service.
However, employees may elect to withdraw employee contribution funds upon leaving City employment in accordance with federal guidelines.
The City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
Vacation Extended part time employees accrue vacation credits at three-quarter the rate of full time, non-exempt employees.
Extended part time employees with less than 3 years of service earn 60 vacation hours per year; those with more than 3 but less than 10 years of service earn 90 vacation hours per years; those with more than 10 years of service earn 120 vacation hours per years.
Sick Leave Extended part time employees accrue 6 hours of sick leave per month.
Holidays Normally scheduled working hours, which fall on official City holidays, will be compensated.
The City observes 12 holidays per year.
Overtime Extended part time employees are compensated at one and one-half times their hourly rate for authorized overtime work beyond 40 hours per week.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Part time employees are employed at will and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
As such, their services can be discontinued without cause.
Deferred Compensation Plans:
Are available to interested employees.
Social Security:
The City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
Medicare:
Employees hired after 1/1/86, are required to contribute 1.
45% of their earnings.
